n recent years, same sex marriage has been a very heated topic, much like abortion. Legalization of same sex marriages first started in Massachusetts in May 2004, then spreading across the nation to states such as California and New Jersey. The resistance to the legalization of marriage has resulted in several barriers such as using the word “union,” instead of marriage to appease those who believe marriage is constituted strictly between man and woman.
