Couples’ Retreat

Wow, what to say about this film. First off, I’ll say that I was really disappointed with funny man Vince Vaughn who wrote and starred in this dull comedy. He and good friend (and usually funny man) Jon Favreau (I Love You, Man) teamed up to write this script and I will just say for the record, it was an epic failure. Before I go into my rant session, let me tell you a little about this film. Knowing that their relationship is crumbling to pieces, Cynthia and Jason (Kristen Bell and Jason Bateman) decide to go to a “relationship restoration retreat” and they decide to drag along three other couples with them. Honestly, that is about the entire plot summary I can give because to tell you the truth, there was no plot. It was just one stupid joke after another, over and over again, throughout the entire two hours. It was like Vaughn and Favreau were sitting on Vaughn’s patio one day and they were like, “Hey, you know what would be funny? If we just made a movie that had all our stupid, inside jokes that nobody understood. Yeah, that’d be great!” Wrong. It was not great; it was a waste of film. Another huge disappointment for me was that this movie has a stellar cast! Kristin Davis (Sex and the City), Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Jason Bateman (Juno, Arrested Development) and even Vaughn and Favreau have their hysterical moments. I just think that this was a terrible idea for a movie and a terrible script. Near the end of the film, I found myself not caring about any of the characters, but caring about how much longer I had to sit through this torture. Usually, I would say just wait for this film to come out for rental, but no, don’t even do that. Just spare yourself the agony and skip out on “Couples Retreat.”
